T4 gene 32 protein is a nucleic acid binding protein that is essential for bacteriophage T4 DNA and has the function of destabilizing the helical structure. It is used for promoting DNA synthesis by DNA polymerase, site-specific mutagenesis, eliminating extra bands during sequencing(Ref.5, marking single stranded DNA for electron microscope and the like. Its activity in reducing the effect of inhibitory substances in PCR is also noted.

In the presence of hemin at a concentration of 1 µg/µl, PCR is inhibited, but when 40 ng/µl of T4 gene 32 protein (gp32) is added, the inhibition by 1 µg/µl of hemin is reduced.
